Marilyn Stablein

Marilyn Stablein, author of twelve books, received Creative Writing degrees from the University of Washington and the University of Houston where she was a Cullen Fellow. A former book critic for the Seattle Times her poems, stories, essays and reviews are widely published. Her book of poems Splitting Hard Ground won the New Mexico Book Award and the National Federation of Press Women’s Book Award. Other works include an ongoing series of prose poems Night Travels to Tibet, a Himalayan memoir Sleeping in Caves and a collection of eco-essays Climate of Extremes: Landscape and Imagination. Her work has been published in The Seattle Review, Mississippi Review, ZYZZYVA, The Sun, Crazyhorse, Periodics, Willow Springs, Clinton Street Quarterly and Otoliths.

 

In addition to giving numerous readings at universities, literary centers, and venues both here and abroad, she has presented multi-media spoken word performaces accompanied by musicians and dancers.

 

Her collages and photographs appear on the covers of Rattle Magazine, Malpais Review and Raven Chronicles. Her widely exhibited award-winning artist books are featured in LARK’s 1,000 Artist Books, 500 Artist Books, The Bone Folder and Bound and Lettered magazine. She and her husband own Anthology Booksellers, a used and out-of-print store in Portland’s Hawthorne district and online.
